I have some fond memories of the school days and have always tried to see the amusing side to so much in life. I recall with mirth the day Phillip and I borrowed the school pick-up truck to collect a sofa from my parent's home to furnish that rather smelly North House prefects common room! Phil and I left on a Sunday and drove with the very slow three geared vehicle first to Phillips home in Redhill - phoned Tom Weston to keep apologising for being behind schedule as the vehicle overheated - or so I claimed! We then drove to Purley and loaded the old family sofa - had something to eat - called Tom again - yes the same problem - and eventually got back to school - we had smoked No6 all the way there and back and delighted in a day out. When Oet asked me about the vehicle he asked - 'John - it didn't overheat that much did it?' I replied 'no not really Sir' - with a very cheeky grin - he understood and I dare to think enjoyed the fact that we had got one over on Tom who had replaced him as House Master that year. Even now in maturer years I am still that naughty boy at heart...
