John's brother David has now informed us : "There’s no need for anyone to make the trek to Scotland. There will be no funeral, just a private, family-only cremation service. ~ There will be a small memorial event at a later date, in Eskdalemuir, but that is aimed primarily at locals with whom John interacted on the local parish council and in the local church.

A sad day - Ferdy was my era and enduring memories of him was as editor and columnist of the Ottershaw gazette and bowling loopy leg breaks on a Sunday for the masters.A man of humour and education. He was the first I think to win a scholarship to Cambridge. Rest easy my old friend
