Malcolm Pratt MBE

OT35 - West

We have been advised by his wife Bridget Pratt of the death of Old Boy Malcolm Pratt MBE, OT35 West who passed away in the morning of 3rd June.

He was school captain from 1951 to 1953, being one of the first pupils to attend Ottershaw School in1948 and had been an active member of the Old Boys Society since leaving school. He was also the first ever editor of the Ottershaw Weekly News. which was first published on 13th January 1951.

His voluntary work for the communities he served began during his career as a schoolmaster in four different schools in East Sussex, including the former Down County Secondary School for Boys in Bexhill. He was also a noted historian specialising in the history of Winchelsea and the author of two books on the Cinque Ports. In 2010 he received the MBE “for services to the community in Winchelsea and to Heritage in East Sussex.”

His widow would welcome any correspondence from his friends at 16 Dowland Avenue, Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex. TN39 3PL.

The funeral wil be at Eastbourne Cramatorium at 2pm on 3rd July. His Widow Bridget would be happy to be contacted from any of Malcolm's friends from schooldays.

What a loss.  A lovely man and Sussex historian and lecturer after he he retired from teaching. Honoured me with attendance at one of my talks on town crying. He lectured across East. Sussex groups and clubs on both history and on OTTERSHAW school!!!    He was also the honorary town clerk of the Cinque port of Winchelsea from 1984, until 2012, and Winchelsea was the focus of his history studies - Peter White OT658
