Michael John Buley

OT10 - West

It is with the greatest sadness we announce that Michael John Buley (OT10 - West) - known to his many admirers as Mike, died peacefully on November 4, 2023.

Michael was the first pupil to enter Ottershaw on 20th September 1948 and had hoped to join in with the 75th celebrations at Great Fosters earlier this year but due to failing health was unable to make the long trip from Canada. Instead he recorded his memories of Ottershaw School in a video which was shown at the anniversary luncheon by his son David (OTT411) the video can be seen from here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hevkhAQcbBs

David said of his father, “His dedication to Ottershaw was unflinching and we have both shared stories of our glories of being at school. And I am thankful that I was able to share in that place as well.”  He also provided the following link https://www.moase.ca/obituaries/173596 to the obituary.

Soon after the 75th celebrations, Michael's wife Betty passsed away rather suddenly and his own health deteriorated. Nevertheless in his last weeks, Michael enjoyed showing his caregivers the stories and pictures from “Run Like a Stag”. When he was buried he was wearing his OSOBS tie and also his 75th Anniversary enamel badge.

In June next year there will be a celebration of the life of Michael along with his beloved wife Betty who had passed away just a few weeks before him.
