Mr David Hughes,

History master

We are saddened to learn from Michael Timms (OT511 North) of the death of Mr David Hughes, a former master at Ottershaw in the very early days of the school.

A copy of the email between Michael Timms and David Hughes wife Lotte, is quoted below.

Many thanks for your email. No, he didn’t teach me; he was there before my time. There are, however, still a few old boys who would have been taught by him, so would you mind if I forward the obituary to the secretary of the of old boys association?  My wife, Carole, was one of the nurses who looked after him at Four Rivers and I believe they used to discuss Shakespeare etc. It’s such a pity that she didn’t know about his Ottershaw days. If she had have known, she would have invited him to allow me to meet him. Never mind, there are always opportunities that we don’t know about until it’s too late. I should very much like to have met your father: we would have had mutual acquaintances among the teaching staff. 

Incidentally, one of my pals at Ottershaw also met and married one of the catering staff. I attended their wedding. Sadly, he also died a few weeks ago.
