Peter Neve

OT644 - North

On 7/3/26 we received the following message by email:

It is with much sadness that I advise the death of Peter Neve, OT644  (1960 - 1966).
I heard from his daughter Katie today that he died in hospital the early hours of the morning on Wednesday 4th March. He was 78.
He died from pneumonia after a recent operation. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Katie, son Chris and I think four grandchildren.

I saw Peter regularly on visits to the UK and last saw him in June 2024.
He had lived near Northampton for many years.
He was a primary school teacher and eventually a headmaster, but retired many years ago,

I am happy to be contacted if anyone who knew Peter from Ottershaw days wishes have more details.

I live in Australia, and with the current conflict in the Middle East, I am unlikely to be able to attend Peter’s funeral. I am not aware of funeral details at the moment.

Best regards

Barry (Ottershaw 634)

Curiously, I was thinking of Peter Neve just days before he died. Because - in spite of his being a person whom I never met, nor ever even spoke to - he was nevertheless instrumental in awakening, and instilling, in me (and I suspect others, too) a lifelong love of music of the broadly classical kind. How so? Because every term-time weekday - there we all were, standing in line, house by house, in morning assembly in the mansion's former aviary, waiting for the masters to take their place by the wall bars & finally the head, our ears meanwhile assailed by snippets from (mainly 19th-century) composers - all chosen by Peter. In that respect, I respectfully salute him for 'making a difference'.
