A fine athlete, a musician, a talented thespian, successful in business and a pillar in the local community, Michael is greatly missed by his family and many friends. In schooldays Michael was noted for his athletics, music as a violinist and double bass player and in particular in drama for a fine performance as Sir Peter Teazle in A School for Scandal in his final year at Ottershaw.

Together with school contemporaries Jeremy Burbidge and David Howell, Michael was one of the first three young people in Surrey to achieve Gold Standard in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards Scheme and attended an informal ceremony at
Buckingham Palace for presentation of a badge and certificate. After leaving school and his studies as a Chartered Secretary, Michael enjoyed a successful career for some 20 years with Mercantile Credit Industrial Finance, followed by a move to Lombard Orient Leasing. Prior to retirement he went into business with his wife Mary, restoring antique fine china. In his leisure pursuits he continued his interests in amateur dramatics and was a founder member of a local music society.

Fifteen years ago Michael underwent kidney transplant surgery and under medical supervision was seen as an outstanding patient. Sadly, early last year Michael suffered a post-operative infection following pneumonia and died at
the end of November. He leaves a widow, Mary, a son Christopher, a daughter Emma and four grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father and a proud grandfather.
