Mansion Fire

The Mansion fire of 3 Feb 2019 in which a 70 year old woman died, could have been even worse according to the   fire brigade.  It was due to the rugged steel and concrete construction of the building that the fire  was pretty  well contained and did not spread further.   We now know the fire was in the Niven Suite on the second floor of the mansion formed from the rooms to the right side  (looking from the gardens) of the main central block on the second floor which is an area not used for dormitories but was once occupied  by non academic members of the school's staff including the catering manager.  The Ottershaw Park Estate website reports can be found here and a  local press report on the fire can be found here.
