We sadly learned that following a prolonged illness,David passed away in his sleep sometime during the night of 31 Jan /1 Feb 2018. David was one of the founder members of the highly successful "1960s Group" where many pupils from that era meet annually.

David requested that his body be given to Medical Science as his Muscular Dystrophy (which he has had since he was a baby), was a very rare form called Myofibrillar Myopathy, which took specialists in Newcastle, 7 years to discover the gene responsible. He is, apparently, the only known individual in the UK to have had this particular type? It explains how his limited physical abilities at Ottershaw can be attributed to the disease - so sad isn't it? A memorial service has been arranged for Wednesday 11 April at 2pm at the Dean Park Hotel in Kirkcaldy. It’ll be a 30 minute ‘service’ and then a bit of an afternoon tea. There will be a collection for charity as well (likely to be the Brain Tumour Charity and Newcastle’s Centre for Life but still tbc).
